What training is required for a returning patroller?
The requalification process includes the following components:
Components to be completed prior to attending an AFA Requalification course:
- AFA Training Record (Yellow Card) Skills (May 31st)
- E-learning modules and quizzes
- AFA Written exam (online)
- BLS Written exam (online)
Components to be completed at a 1-day Returning Patroller AFA Requalification Course:
- BLS skills review, practice, and evaluation
- Patient Assessment skill evaluation
- AFA Diagnostic Evaluation
NOTE: All course pre-requisites (AFA skills, e-learning, and the two exams) are to be completed one week prior to attending the course. This enables our ZIMS database to be updated with the status of your pre-requisite activities and gives course coordinators time to finalize plans and communicate with instructors and participants.
All other components will be completed as part of your chosen 1-day in-person requalification event.
*Note: written examinations can be offered in person, or with individual accommodation on request
When are the requalification training dates?
This year 12 courses will be offered across key locations to be determined in Central Zone. These events will be scheduled as a 1-day long evaluation of diagnostic and basic life support skills and will ONLY be offered on:
- Weekend course dates (11 one-day options): September 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22,
- New! – GTA Midweek evening course: September 24/26 (two sessions)
Course dates and the number of participants each course can accommodate are limited. Register and enrol early to have the greatest selection of course date and location.
When does e-learning open?
E-learning is open to all as of July 1st. Note, there may be a slight delay between your registration and e-learning access. Patrollers are reminded to register early to avoid delays or access issues prior to requalification events.
Enter the e-learning portal via the link on your ZIMS personal page. Note, passwords may vary between ZIMS and e-learning.
Will more options be available later in the season?
No additional requalification courses will be offered. It is essential we complete all requalification training before new patroller training begins in early October.
Instructor resources are limited, and we are taking precautions not to overload the volunteer training department capacity to safely prepare all patrollers for this year. This training program also respects the planning needs of our resort partners, setting everyone up for the best possible season.
Do not delay, spots are limited, and no additional recertification courses are planned. Any concerns please contact your Patrol Leader as soon as possible.
What is required to return from sabbatical?
If you are returning from a 1-year sabbatical you are only required to complete a regular requalification event alongside other returning patrollers. You must however complete all the requalification course pre-requisites, including your AFA skills, which are done at the patrol level. See requalification details for the 2024-2025 season above.
Sabbaticals of 2-years or longer may require a new patroller AFA course or modified course and should contact VP Training vptraining@skipatrolcentral.com to determine the appropriate training.
What happens if I fail my requalification exam?
Patrollers must come prepared on test day. Don’t forget to review your material and practice in advance of the requalification weekend.
Retesting will occur on one weekend only: September 30/ October 1.
In the unlikely scenario that a patroller is unsuccessful on two successive requalifications, they have the opportunity to re-train by enrolling in the 24/25 new candidate course.
What is the 2024/2025 returning patroller fee?
Returning patroller fees vary depending on the date of registration. Register early to get the best rate!
- **EARLY BIRD** (up to July 31 midnight): $225
- August 1 to August 31 midnight: $260

Why do I have to register so early?
Registration is open now through to September 15. Patrollers are encouraged to register early to secure their preferred recertification date and location. The registration cut off is aligned with the available recertification training dates and will ensure no one is unprepared for the upcoming season.
Will new patrollers courses be offered this year?
Yes, new patrollers courses will be available this Fall for booking in ZIMS once dates and venues are confirmed.
Do I have to be vaccinated in order to patrol?
No. Following the lead of industry partners, Central Zone no longer requires vaccination to patrol.
