RULES FOR CENTRAL ZONE RACE

The Central Zone race is primarily for Central Zone patrollers or those patrollers that actively patrol at Central Zone resorts. At the discretion of the Zone Management, additional registration of team(s) may be allowed by CSP members from other zones.

  1. Each team must consist of four members (racers) of the same discipline (Alpine or Snowboard) and must be a coed team.
  2. Team member rules:
    • Must be On Snow Rescue (OSR) qualified in the discipline they are competing in. AFA qualification is not required.
    • May compete in multiple disciplines, but only one discipline can be used for the team scores. A supplemental registration may be required for the alternate discipline if registering as an individual.
    • Racers are automatically registered as individuals for the discipline registered with team.
    • Racers must be Active and in good standing.
  3. Each racer will complete two runs. The combined total of the two runs will be used for individual placing. The faster of the two runs will be used for the team score.
  4. Racers will run in numerical bib order for the first run and reverse numerical order for the second run.
  5. To qualify for the relic category the total age and years of service for the team must be greater than 200.
  6. Individual winners are decided by cumulative time of both runs. If a racer fails to make both runs, they are disqualified from the individual competition, but if they have completed at least one run, they are still eligible for the team competition.
  7. A complete run is one in which the racer leaves the race hut, passes on the correct side of each gate (without missing one), crosses the finish line with a valid time and is properly registered for the race.
  8. Racers must be at the start area in order of number. If you miss your turn you must wait until the end to complete your run.

Individual Registration:

  1. Individual racers may register to compete as individual in a discipline for which they are OSR qualified.
  2. Each racer will complete two runs. The combined total of the two runs will be used for individual placing.
  3. Racers will run in numerical bib order for the first run and reverse numerical order for the second run.
  4. Individual winners are decided by cumulative time of both runs. If a racer fails to make both runs, they are disqualified from the individual competition.
  5. A complete run is one in which the racer leaves the race hut, passes on the correct side of each gate (without missing one), crosses the finish line with a valid time and is properly registered for the race.
  6. Racers must be at the start area in order of number. If you miss your turn you must wait until the end to complete your run.

Toboggan Challenge

The toboggan team can consist of any four members racing for the resort. There is the potential that scarcity of toboggans and or number of teams registered may dictate the limiting of one team from each resort. This will be communicated prior to the day of the race.

A rough course map and instructions will be given out at registration and explained in the coaches meeting. The course is subject to change based on the placing of gates and how the snow holds up throughout the day.

If an obstacle is not completed or your passenger falls out of the toboggan 10 seconds will be added to the team’s time for each occurrence.

A passenger falling out of the toboggan is defined as the passenger is no longer in contact with any part of the toboggan.

Specific Race rules

A specific Zone Race event can share adjusted rules prior to the event.
